Platinum nitrate
CAS 18496-40-7
Platinum nitrate is the halide-free precursor of choice for industrial catalyst manufacture — the impregnation chemistry behind automotive emission catalysts and chloride-sensitive supported Pt systems, supplied as solution at certified Pt concentration or as solid.

Where Pt(NO₃)ₓ is used
Emission-control catalyst manufacture
The standard washcoat impregnation source for Pt on alumina and ceria-zirconia in automotive and stationary emission catalysts, where chloride residues would sinter the metal and corrode substrates.
Chloride-free supported catalysts
Used across fuel-cell, chemical-process and hydrogenation catalyst production where halide-free metal dispersion and clean calcination are specified.
Storage and shipping
Storage. Store sealed away from organics and reducing agents; oxidizing salt.
Shipping. Oxidizer classification applies to some grades; shipped in UN-approved packaging with DG documentation where required.
Packaging. Solution in DG-compliant carboys by contained Pt weight · Solid: 5 g – 500 g
Synonyms

Frequently asked questions
Why is the Pt content a range?
Solution grades are made to customer-specified concentration (commonly 10–20% Pt) while solids run to ~61%; every lot settles on assayed contained platinum, not nominal weight.
How is pricing structured?
Quotes reference the day's metal fixing on assayed contained metal plus a stated conversion charge, and can be locked at order confirmation for recurring volumes.
Do you take back spent material?
Yes — spent catalyst, residues and off-spec lots are assayed on receipt and the recovered metal credited against your next order, closing the loop on your metal inventory.
