Iridium(III) acetylacetonate

CAS 15635-87-7

Ir(acac)₃ is the organic-soluble iridium workhorse — a direct precursor for tris-cyclometalated OLED emitters via acac displacement, and a clean CVD/nanoparticle iridium source for materials work.

Applications

Where Ir(acac)₃ is used

OLED emitter synthesis

The standard precursor for one-pot synthesis of fac-Ir(ppy)₃-type emitters, where acac ligands displace under thermal cyclometalation — often higher-yielding than the chloro-dimer route for tris-homoleptic targets.

CVD and nanoparticle iridium

A volatile, halide-free source for iridium films and supported Ir nanoparticles in catalysis and electronics research.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How is pricing structured?

Iridium is among the scarcest PGMs with sharply moving prices, so the metal leg is quoted against the day's Ir price on assayed content and locked at order confirmation; conversion is a stated fabrication charge.

What documentation is included?

Every lot ships with a certificate of analysis stating assayed metal content, plus an English SDS. ICP trace-metal panels are available on request.

Do you take back iridium residues?

Yes — at iridium's price level recovery is almost always worthwhile. Residues, spent coatings and off-spec lots are assayed on receipt and the iridium credited against future supply.
