Platinum(II) acetylacetonate

CAS 15170-57-7

Pt(acac)₂ is the most used organic-soluble platinum precursor — the standard entry point to platinum nanoparticles, thin films and bimetallic catalysts wherever an aqueous chloride route is unsuitable.

Applications

Where Pt(acac)₂ is used

Nanoparticle and bimetallic catalyst synthesis

The default Pt source in polyol and hot-injection syntheses of Pt and PtM (M = Ni, Co, Fe) nanocrystals for fuel-cell electrocatalyst research, giving clean thermal decomposition without halide residues.

CVD and ALD of platinum films

A volatile, air-stable precursor for platinum thin films in electrodes, MEMS and catalytic coatings; sublimed grade is specified for deposition work.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Synthesis or sublimed grade?

Nanoparticle and solution work runs fine on synthesis grade; CVD/ALD users should take sublimed grade, where volatile residues and base metals are controlled for reproducible film growth.

How is pricing structured?

Quotes reference the day's metal fixing on assayed contained metal plus a stated conversion charge, and can be locked at order confirmation for recurring volumes.

Do you take back spent material?

Yes — spent catalyst, residues and off-spec lots are assayed on receipt and the recovered metal credited against your next order, closing the loop on your metal inventory.
