Chloro(1,5-cyclooctadiene)iridium(I) dimer
CAS 12112-67-3
[Ir(COD)Cl]₂ is the universal Ir(I) building block — the dimer behind C–H borylation catalysis, asymmetric hydrogenation systems and the synthesis of cyclometalated iridium materials.

Where [Ir(COD)Cl]₂ is used
C–H borylation
With bipyridine ligands it forms the Ishiyama–Miyaura–Hartwig catalyst for direct arene borylation — the most atom-economical route to boronic esters and a staple of modern medicinal chemistry.
Asymmetric hydrogenation and complex synthesis
The precursor to crabtree-type and P,N-ligated iridium hydrogenation catalysts, and a common entry to Ir(I) chemistry across catalysis research.

Frequently asked questions
How is pricing structured?
Iridium is among the scarcest PGMs with sharply moving prices, so the metal leg is quoted against the day's Ir price on assayed content and locked at order confirmation; conversion is a stated fabrication charge.
What documentation is included?
Every lot ships with a certificate of analysis stating assayed metal content, plus an English SDS. ICP trace-metal panels are available on request.
Do you take back iridium residues?
Yes — at iridium's price level recovery is almost always worthwhile. Residues, spent coatings and off-spec lots are assayed on receipt and the iridium credited against future supply.
